We love posters - big and colorful. We also like nostalgia. Our goal is to bring a taste of the old and some of the new in an affordable format for everyone.

Each print is individually made and shipped to you quickly. Your item will arrive in a few days ready to enjoy. When looking at the prints on our site it is important to remember that these are not 'new' or 'fully restored' prints but are, in most cases, accurate aged presentations of items as they currently exist. These are ideal for nostalgic and themed presentations. New mass produced posters are widely available on the Internet and in stores while most of the products we offer can not be found anywhere else.

Restorations | Media | Production Process | Digital Files

Media - We currently offer 3 types of stock paper for our posters.

Glossy/Satin - This is our highest quality heavy satin finish semi gloss paper. It produces the richest, most vibrant colors with the blackest blacks, the deepest blues, the puchiest reds, yellows, greens, and all else. Buy this when you want the best quality.

Matte - This is a heavy matte finish paper which accurate reproduces the softer tones of many of our vintage reproduction prints. Use this when authentic realism is more important than the brilliance of modern day reproduction art.

TH (thin) Matte - This low cost paper is primary used for temporary prints or maps. It's lightweight and provides the most cost effective and accurate reproduction for our vintage map items (panoramic, railroad, and civil war maps). Not recommended for colorful illustrative art.

What Does 'Viewable Image' Mean? ( top )

We make all our prints on standard size papers so our customers can use 'off the shelf' low cost frames available in local stores like Michael's Crafts and others. The dimensions of the images we offer may not match the proportional dimensions of that paper size. The 'Viewable Image' is the portion of the image that is 'printed', becoming 'viewable', on the standard size paper. This will leave a border on the paper.

Here's an example what we mean - The magic poster shown here is offered as:
18x24 THMatte (11.4" x 22.6" viewable*)

The paper is 18x24 inches. The image occupies 11.4 x 22.6 inches of that paper. That leaves a larger left/right border and a smaller top/bottom border. Sometimes the borders are even on all sides and sometimes the top/bottom or left/right borders will be larger or smaller depending on the image width and height compared to the paper's width and height.

Important Note: Please be advised that the viewable image size is approximate and may vary slightly. It is intended for reference purposes. Please DO NOT use this number for the purpose of pre-sizing a frame. You should ALWAYS have the final product in hand prior to sizing a frame.

DIGITAL FILE - Digital files delivered on CD for industry professionals.

We can send you a copy of our digital file on CD which may be used to create prints of your own, use in film production, or other similar needs.

The most common format is TIF (uncompressed) . Typical image resolution is 300 dpi @ 18 inches. File sizes range from 25 meg to over 600 meg. Some images are in better condition and resolution than others. If an image is offered in larger sizes by us ( such as 36x54 ) this indicates a higher resolution than items only offered at the smaller (11x14) sizes.

Not all items are available in a restored version. We will only sell an item that has been restored and can not provide 'rush' or 'on demand' restoration service. If an image has not already been restored we will contact you. Generally if you see an item on our site with rips, tears, creases, etc. then it has not yet been restored. You can still purchase the unrestored version for any image offered.

It takes many work hours to produce a restored image ( see below ). Our price represents a fraction of the man-hours invested in restoration. Digital file customers may purchase unrestored images if they wish to perform any modification or restorations on their own time or when restoration is not a requirement ( such as a civil war map ).

Restored Digital Files begin at $250 per image. Unrestored Images ( you provide restoration ) begin at $25 per image. Sci fi, Cheret, and Pinups are excluded. All digital files must be purchased via phone order and are available to U.S. customers only.

Digital images are owned by KJA and may not be resold. KJA retains copyrights on all restored derivative works. Other images on this site are owned by third parties and digital files can not be offered due to contractual agreement.

Restorations:

( top )

Many people ask us about restorations and while some items on our site have lines, marks, tears, and others do not. While many items we sell have been restored to varying degrees many items have not. When purchasing from us the image shown on the website is the most recent edition. This may show a stained, torn image or a flawless restoration. It's best to assume that the image you purchase from us will appear as shown on the website with a few exceptions. The items in our collection come from a wide and varied source and many of our customers are interested in the historical value rather than the presentation value of a particular item so ALL items are offered on our website regardless of current condition.

Please note not all images will be fully restored and many are simply too deteriorated to attempt a restoration or there's simply not enough demand for a particular image. We will, in most cases, attempt to remove page separations ( that long black or white line splitting the image into 2 or more pieces ) but do not guarantee this will occur when you purchase your print. If you would like a restored or semi restored version please contact us. There may be a several week delay for restoration requests or restoration may not even be possible.

Standard cleanup: all Panoramic Maps, Railroad Maps, and Civil War maps will have most library stamps removed and erroneous writing removed not relevant to the print, such as library notes, unless such items are embedded in important areas of the print and are simply not economical to remove.

Restoration: Lines, Tears, and Page separations are repaired and the image is adjusted for maximum contrast and legibility. Here's a sample of an image previously shown on our site as 'unrestored' and has now been 'restored':
