This CD will help you improve the performance, sonic presence, and spatial imagery of your current stereo, surround sound, or car audio system.

This CD provides industry standard diagnostics to make aligning your audio system easy. The tracks on this CD can be used to adjust audio equalizers, track down wiring problems, verify crossovers, adjust surround sound system levels, tape test tones, etc.

It is a common practice to use a standard audio music cd to rough out a system. Although it is done, more likely than not the system will be left 'colored' ( some frequencies are louder than others, producing false images ) or unbalanced ( each speaker puts out an arbitrary volume level, resulting in poor locational imaging ).

After aligning a system, voices will sound crisper, audio location will be more apparent, distinction and clarity will improve dramatically, and the overall listening experience will be more vibrant and realistic.

Tracks 1-10 provide industry standard test tones.

The lower tones  (30,60,100) help identify room vibrations and objectionable rattles from items in the room or the speakers themselves.

The 30 and 60 hz tones are excellent for aligning a cone during the re-coning of woofers.

The 1k and 10k hz tones are very useful in matching levels throughout your system.

Each frequency has a corresponding 180 degree out of phase version for checking proper speaker phasing. Usually, the 'in phase' track will be louder than the 'out of phase' track due to wave interference. 'Out of Phase' waves tend to cancel each other out. If you experience cancelation while playing the 'in phase' track, check the + and - wires from your amp to your speakers are the same for each speaker. It may be necessary to check the wiring in the speaker cabinets themselves, as sometimes this may be inverted.

Sweeping Crossover Tests (11-18) These will help you find 'Hot Spots' or 'Dropouts' in your system's ability to reproduce an entire spectrum of frequencies.

Hot Spots occur when resonance occurs in a speaker enclosure or room. This is also known as a standing wave, and can be quite over powering at a particular frequency. You can reduce Hot Spots by adjusting your system's EQ.

Dropouts generally occur when the speaker crossover system is improperly matched to the speakers, or the crossovers are failing. This is also caused by misaligned EQ settings or non linear amplification. You can reduce Dropouts by adjusting your system's EQ.

Tracks 19, 20, and 21 are designed to help adjust a rooms response by providing common tones in the common equalization bands. Place a microphone of known response at the listening point of the room. Plug this microphone into an equalizer with a graphic display and you'll see where your room attenuates or accentuates frequencies. Make adjustments to the room's equalizer to compensate.

It is common for speakers, amplifiers, carpets, walls, room shape, room size, etc. to create complex colorations which should be flattened out to attain the best audio image. This will be the closest to what the engineer intended us to hear. Generally, you'll hear distinct differences in audio clarity as you approach flat.

White and Pink noise can test audio sound pressure level for multi speaker ( surround ) systems. Since these tracks contain audio from all frequencies, you can adjust each speakers output to your personal perceived 'equal' volume level, or use a microphone with sound level meter for more exact adjustments.
